The Greenville Track Club began the celebration of their 50th Anniversary with the 43rd running of the Greenville News Run Downtown 5K on Saturday morning. Jason Weitzel became the 11th ASICS Greenville Track Club-ELITE athlete to win this historic race. He joins Kimberly Ruck (3x), Austin Steagall (2x), Adam Freudenthal (2x), Joe Niemiec, Annie Rodenfels and Chelsi Woodruff as event winners. Weitzel's time of 14;37 over the rolling route was the second fastest in race history, behind only the 14:14 clocking of ASICS GTC-ELITE's Austin Steagall in 2017. Greenville's Frank DeVar took second with a time of 15:37 as he placed among the top four here for the fourth time. He was followed by Trey Sullivan of Taylors in 16:05. This year's women's winner was Simpsonville's Esther Atkins with a time of 18:47. She was followed by Jamie Connelly in 19:21 and Arden Gray at 19:32, both of Greenville. Atkins, a new mother, is a two-time winner of the United Community Bank Reedy River Run 10K and a former USATF Marathon champion. For the full set of results please use this link: 2022 Results. .
