Our August meeting will be held on August 7th at Chuy’s, 1034 Woodruff Road. This month’s meeting will be two fold: first, David Atkinson will speak briefly on how an Oak Tree connects Greenville, South Carolina to the 1936 Olympic Games and secondly, we will have a member social. This is for all members and we hope that new members and members who have never attended a meeting will come also. It’s a great time to meet other runners, look for running groups and get more involved with the Greenville Track Club. We will start at 6:30pm.
Here are the updated standings for the GTC Running Series:
The Greenville Track Club’s All-Comers meets, which have been held for over 40 years, will continue at Furman University on Tuesday, July 11th, July 18th and 25th. The first event will start at 6:15 PM. Entry is free to all children 17 and under plus adult GTC members. Entry fee will be $4 for non-GTC adults. To sign up in advance, which helps the volunteers, please go to https://runsignup.com/Race/SC/Greenville/GTCAllComersTrackMeet
Because of the varying weather conditions across the Upstate and locally from minute-to-minute during the summer, advanced cancellation is unlikely. Any decision to stop the meet in progress or delay it for safety reasons will be made in consultation with the Bon Secours St. Francis Sports Medicine person on site, but full cancellation of the meet will be made by the GTC meet directors, if adverse weather conditions don't subside. Adult participants and spectators will be responsible for seeking their own safety, cover and protection. Parents and guardians of children under 18 will be responsible for the safety, cover and protection of those under their supervision. The rules for the Furman meets are different from Eastside.
Furman University is a private institution so even though it may be inconvenient, we want to retain our privilege of using their campus. Here are the 2017 GTC Running Series Standings through the Freedom Flyer 2-Mile. The results from the Sunrise 8K and the Red, White & Blue Shoes 5K should be added soon.
ASICS Greenville Track Club-ELITE's Kimberly Ruck began the national holiday with a quick trip around the 5-kilometer course on the beautiful Furman University campus to win the women's title in the 7th annual Red, White and Blue Shoes road race. Her time of 16:29 shattered the previous record of 16:58, set by Asheville's Kate Schwartz in 2016. Ruck's time is the fastest women's road 5K time for 2017 in South Carolina. Pending a review of course certification it could be considered as a new South Carolina State Record. The men's winner was local standout and Clemson athlete James Quattlebaum with a fine time of 14:35. The event attracted 1331 entries and had 1253 finishers. ASICS GTC-ELITE's Alison Parris traveled to Kernersville, NC for the holiday and completed in the 22nd annual Rotary Club of Kernersville's 4th of July 5K race. Parris placed 5th among a quality field of women runners with a time of 17:23 and earned $100 for her efforts. GTC-ELITE was established in 2012 and produced four qualifiers for the 2016 USA Olympic Trials Marathon in Los Angeles. The post-collegiate, Olympic development program is sponsored by ASICS, the 45-year-old Greenville Track Club, Greenville Health System, ScanSource, Joy Real Estate, the Bare Minimum Track Club, generous individual contributors and partnerships with Performance Therapy, Carolina Spine and Rehab, Soleus Running Watches, Boston Bill Sunglasses, Roll Recovery, FinalSurge, The ATI Running Academy, ElliptiGO, NormaTec Recovery Boots and Cocoa Elite recovery products.
